Our Products
Questions we often get asked
What types of windows and doors do you offer?
We specialise in double glazed timber sash windows, casement windows, French doors, bifold doors, and front doors — all handcrafted to your exact specifications.
Can you match the style of my existing windows?
Absolutely. We create bespoke timber windows and doors designed to replicate your existing profiles, which is especially important for period and heritage properties where maintaining a consistent look is essential.
What type of timber do you use?
We primarily work with Accoya timber, which we recommend for its exceptional durability, stability, and overall quality. All of our timber is FSC-certified, meaning it is responsibly sourced.
We can also provide softwood as an alternative option depending on the project requirements.
What glass options are available?
We offer a range of glazing options including standard double glazing, acoustic glass for noise reduction, and specialist heritage glass for listed properties. Visit our Glass page for full details.
Can I choose custom paint colours and finishes?
Yes. We offer an extensive range of paint finishes so you can match your existing colour scheme or go for something completely new. Take a look at our Paint Finishes page for inspiration.
Installation
Questions we often get asked
How long does an installation typically take?
- A full sash window replacement typically takes around one day per window, per installer, including finishing and decoration.
- A sash refurbishment (new sashes into existing frames) usually takes around 1 to 1.5 days per window, per installer.
- Casement windows and frames are generally installed within a day by our team, depending on the number of windows and site conditions
Will there be much disruption to my home?
We take great care to minimise disruption. Our team works tidily, protects your furnishings and flooring, and leaves everything clean when we’re done.
Do you remove and dispose of old windows?
Yes. We handle the full removal and responsible disposal of your old windows and doors as part of our installation service.
Do you install yourselves or use subcontractors?
All our installations are carried out by our own skilled team, so you get the same high standard of craftsmanship from start to finish.
Planning & Conservation
Questions we often get asked
Do I need planning permission to replace my windows?
Most replacement windows fall under permitted development and don’t need formal planning consent. However, listed buildings and properties in conservation areas may require approval. We can advise you on this when we visit.
Are your windows suitable for listed buildings?
Yes. We regularly work on listed and period properties. Our timber windows can be crafted to meet conservation officer requirements while still providing the benefits of modern double glazing.
Can you help with conservation area applications?
We can guide you through the process and provide the technical specifications and drawings that local authorities typically ask for.
Pricing & Quotes
Questions we often get asked
How do I get a quote?
Give us a call on 07575 380380 or drop us an email at info@thetimberdoubleglazingco.co.uk. We’ll arrange a convenient time to visit your property, take measurements, and discuss your requirements — all with no obligation.
How much do timber double glazed windows cost?
Every project is different, so pricing depends on the style, size, glazing, and finish you choose. We provide detailed, transparent quotes with no hidden costs once we’ve surveyed your property.
Do you offer payment plans or staged payments?
We’re happy to discuss payment arrangements to suit your project. Just ask us when we provide your quote.
Energy Efficiency & Performance
Questions we often get asked
Will new timber double glazing reduce my energy bills?
Yes. Double glazing significantly reduces heat loss compared to single-glazed windows, meaning your home stays warmer in winter and cooler in summer, which should be reflected in lower heating costs.
How does timber compare to uPVC for insulation?
Timber is a naturally superior insulator. It retains heat more effectively than uPVC or aluminium, and when paired with high-performance double glazing, it delivers excellent thermal efficiency.
Will double glazing reduce noise from outside?
Definitely. Double glazed timber windows provide a noticeable reduction in external noise — particularly beneficial if you live near a busy road or in a town centre.
Aftercare & Maintenance
Questions we often get asked
How do I maintain my timber windows and doors?
Timber windows are low-maintenance with the right care. Periodic checks of the paintwork, keeping drainage channels clear, and repainting when needed will keep them looking great and performing well for decades.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes. All our windows and doors come with a guarantee covering both materials and workmanship. We’ll provide full details with your quote.
Can you repaint or refurbish existing timber windows?
Yes. If your existing timber windows are structurally sound, we can refurbish, repaint, and upgrade them rather than replacing them entirely (a cost-effective and sustainable option).
